Confessions of the World’s Most Controversial Sex Symbol: An Authorized Autobiography by Jasmin St. Claire“—is a “tell-all chronicle of St. Claire’s meteoric rise to the top of the porn business in the latter half of the 1990s.”

“The book is very true and very real, there’s nothing fake about it,” St. Claire told AVN. “Sadly enough, this is the type of stuff you could make up. There are parts in the book that’ll make people cry, laugh, be shocked. And there’s just some really tragic moments“.

“But, it’s a story that needs to be told.”

In 1996 St. Claire’s breaking of the gangbang record of 251 set by Annabel Chong led to worldwide success in adult movies and frequent appearances on Howard Stern’s radio show.

She retired from porn in 2000 and transitioned to wrestling gigs for various federations, even owning her own federation, Pro Pain Pro Wrestling (PPPW). A lifelong metal head, she worked as a veejay for Stay Heavy TV, Brazil’s version of MTV, and hosted a Metal Scene show on cable TV in New York and Los Angeles.

Currently she’s working with the rock site MetalsDarkside.com and writing for hard rock magazines in Brazil, Poland and Czech Republic.

“I have a huge following in South America,” she said, citing a 2009 Calendar that will come out there and an upcoming layout in South American Playboy.

Brown, a Nashville-based writer with 19 published titles-most recently Heart in the Studio (ECW Press)-said he and St. Claire are writing in a “water under the bridge” mode rather than dredging up and rehashing “disputes that are 10 years old. She’s not trashing anybody that doesn’t deserve to be trashed.”

“There’s nothing in it that’s not true,” St. Clair said. “It’s full of a lot of stuff about the wrestling business, the adult industry and people in general-but you know what, I don’t give two fucks, it’s my book and I’ll do it the way I want to do it, which is my way.”

Ron Jeremy, one of St. Claire’s closest associates, has already been interviewed for the book. As for John T. Bone, the porn impresario who created the “World’s Biggest Gangbang” series, Brown said they are relying on archival material at the moment, due to his recent legal problems in Thailand, but they do have “a goal of attempting to talk to him.”

Also to be interviewed are metal personalities like Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister and KISS bassist Gene Simmons as well as various wrestling figures.

For St. Claire, “Everything’s great. My life is a thousand times better now. I’m glad I quit the business in 2000. My fans have always been loyal to me and I’ve kept my fan base over the years,” pointing out that the book will appeal to three fan demographics: adult, wrestling and metal.

“I’m one of the girls who have actually made it into mainstream. I did a National Lampoon movie, I did a lot of that stuff. But I still haven’t taken a nude photo in eight years. I just have my metalsdarkside.com site and I have a lot of photos up there“.

“This is what I’m happy doing and I’m a lot happier as a person. That’s all that really matters at the end of the day.”

St. Claire and Brown plan to have the book finished by the end of August.

When Showtime debuted its broadcast of the 2008 Adult Video News Awards on March 14, the cabler made history with something often pursued but rarely achieved: an awards show that wasn’t dull.
Could the Oscars learn something from the AVNs?

Of course, the Oscars are live and Showtime had more than a month to edit. And there’s other inequities: Movie stars try to disguise all evidence of plastic surgery; porn stars put theirs on display. The Oscars must contend with five best-song perfs while AVN celebrates award categories like Best Group Sex Scene.

However, the Showtime program also captured elements that mainstream award shows would love to embrace but too often don’t.

Discernible personalities: AVN’s red-carpet hosts were rock star-porn director Dave Navarro and Wicked Pictures contract starlet Kirsten Price. They may be less recognizable than Ryan Seacrest, but they seem like a lot more fun to hang around with.

The element of surprise: It was an honest-to-(er)-goodness shock when Jenna Jameson prefaced her presentation of the Crossover Star of the Year Award with the announcement that she had retired from porn.

Short speeches: AVN president Paul Fishbein says the show imposes no time limits on its winners. He doesn’t have to; most porn stars don’t thank their agents.

Willingness to edit: This year, the AVNs had about 110 categories (”almost as many the Grammys,” says Fishbein, who plans a shorter roster next year). Of those, only 20 were presented at the ceremony; other winners were read as a list.
But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The Oscarcast is often criticized for its dull choreography, and porn vets take a similarly dim view of the bump-and-grind dance party that traditionally ends the AVNs, especially when the segment needed to be honed for airing on Showtime.

“When it finally ended, they said, ‘One more time!’ because it was TV,” says Wicked VP Joy King. “I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding.’ ”
